Ok, when I said "fun", I meant not very much fun at all! Theresa went through quite a bit of pain until receiving the epidural, or "block" close to 3pm. After that, we had some complications.
Theresa was dilated to an 8 (out of 10), but the baby's heart rate was lowering after each contraction. This meant we had to turn off the Pitocin medication, which is what helps create the contractions.
In addition, the baby was not lowering into position correctly. Dr. Lowden believed that the umbilical cord was probably wrapped around the baby's head, or possibly that the baby's just could not pass through the birth canal correctly.
So after roughly 12 hours of labor, it was decided that it was time to have a c-section. I put on scrubs, Theresa was given some more medication, and they wheeled us down to the operating room.
